BodyNoise performance workshop

Body as a sensorial interface

#bodynoise #genderhacking #diy/dit #prosthesis #performance #synestesia # sensorial cyborg #transfeminist

This workshop is focused on experimental bodysound and performance. We are interested in a collective creation of DIY artefacts as a tool of re-signification of our relationship with technology and its role in the production of subjectivity.

We assume a notion cyborg that considers identity as a technological and artistic creation and seek to experiment hybrid identities that search to escape an infinite list of dichotomies like natural/artificial, humane/machine, human/animal, man/woman, homo/hetero, art/science, human/environment, touch/sound, ability/disability, normal/abnormal, public/private…

We propose an electronic circuit that generates sound through contact between our bodies>> bodynoise amp

This device transforms body electrical activity in sound by contact between different bodies. [BN A] allows to experiment a tact / sound cyborg synesthesia and the perceptive and identity deconstruction generated by this one.

We use it to experiment different body states, coupling the device, as a prosthesis, to the body. It is also a line of research in which we work lately, both in performances and workshops where we experiment through body contact and cyborg synesthesia.

Quimera uses this device in its performance and has given more than 20 workshops in Spain, France, Canada, Switzerland, Portugal and Germany about its construction and use.

Quimera Rosa [Pink Chimera] is a lab that researches and experiments on body, technology and identities. Our aim is to develop practices able to produce non-natural cyborg identities from a multidisciplinary perspective. We assume Donna Haraway’s notion of cyborg, that defines it as: “chimeras, theorized and fabricated hybrids of machine and organism.”

Aware by trans feminist and post identity discourses, we make bodies a platform for public intervention, breaking up limits between public and private. We understand sexuality as a technological and artistic creation and seek to experiment hybrid, flexible and changing identities able to blur frontiers between natural and artificial, normal and abnormal, woman and man.

We are specially interested in the articulations between art, science and technology, and their function in the production of subjectivities.

In our performances, you can see a hybridization body / machine / environment, hybridization obtained with the incorporation of electronic devices connected to the body by BDSM techniques and the use of the electrochemical properties of certain elements (water, quinine, salt …). Our work includes long periods of research / experimentation, generally during residences. This past year, our work as performers combine with an intense activity of dispensing workshops based on the [BodyNoise Amp]. This workshop is based on the construction of the device and a body prosthesis, and experimentation with synesthesia generated by the use of the device.

The most of our work is developed in a collaborative way under free culture paradigm.
